Acxiom® Corporation expands its interactive marketing offerings with the acquisition of New York-based EchoTarget, a leader in dynamic banner retargeting. The company provides customized targeting solutions for online advertisers and publishers, extending Acxiom’s personalization expertise across digital channels that already include email, search and website. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
EchoTarget works with marketers and publishers to identify and target high-value marketing segments based on users’ online behaviors. Those users are then targeted through relevant banners on the company’s network of websites. EchoTarget was founded in 2005 by chief executive officer Gregory Smith, formerly vice president of e-commerce at Cendant. Smith also held product management and strategy positions in DoubleClick’s technology and media divisions.
EchoTarget employees, including Smith, immediately will become part of an Acxiom business unit responsible for helping media buyers across industries purchase online advertising targeted to their specific criteria. The business unit’s products will be branded Relevance-X™.
“With this acquisition, Acxiom brings to the online world targeting technologies the company pioneered in direct mail with the world’s most successful companies,” said Rich Howe, Acxiom’s chief marketing and strategy leader. “Relevance-X does something no other product can do – combine both a segment-based and behavioral-based approach to banner targeting.”
In today’s increasingly digital world, consumers want personal service both online and offline. Marketers want to work with companies which can help them manage their marketing programs across all channels. The acquisition of EchoTarget, along with Acxiom’s previous purchases of Digital Impact in 2005 and Kefta in April 2007 and combined with the company’s 30-year history of serving companies’ offline needs, positions Acxiom uniquely as that multi-channel marketing services provider. These solutions will allow marketers to get the right messages to the right consumers at the right place and time through the right channel.
“We look forward to introducing our industry-leading targeting capabilities to Acxiom clients,” said Smith, who will lead the Acxiom business unit. “We’ll immediately tap into Acxiom’s extensive resources and expertise in the development of cutting-edge targeting solutions for our clients.”
