Technology is blurring the lines between telecommunications and content distribution. Market share is shifting between carriers, consumer products companies, software providers and media companies. Competition is coming from areas that are not aligned with traditional telecom services — devices, software and “cloud” services vendors. Even as the number of traditional players has been reduced, buyers have more and more access and application choices. The basic structure of the value delivery chain is changing from many providers/few services to few providers/many services.
