Digital Transformation Demystified

Michele FitzpatrickAugust 26, 2019

Digital transformation can mean many different things to different organizations – from setting up a mobile app, to re-wiring and digitally enabling the entire enterprise, and everything in between. In some organizations, the term “digital transformation” has become a bit of a catch-all phrase applied to just about any technology project.

Digital transformation is critically important as brands open the conversation with their customers across channels. Digital engagement and interaction are essential strategies required to understand the wants and needs of consumers. Innovation no longer happens from the top down. The once linear, one-directional arrow between concept and consumption now looks more like a flowchart, with consumers positioned at many points along the way.

In this episode of Retail Shift, we’ll discuss many different aspects of digital transformation to try to demystify this complex discipline for Retail, Consumer Packaged Goods and Travel brands. We’ll explore what it is, how to think about it, why it’s so important now, and how to frame it within the context of the customer experience. We’ll also discuss the importance of data and identity management to fuel the digital transformation.

Eric Bruce, my guest for this episode, has deep experience in understanding data, making technology work, and orchestrating digital strategy across teams and systems. He’s worked effectively with stakeholders in the C-suite, and with database and web engineers at institutions such as USA Today and Oracle, often translating among these very different worlds. Today he leads Digital Strategy and Services for Acxiom. Retail Shift is a monthly podcast from Acxiom offering insights into the changing realities and future opportunities for data-driven retail, consumer brands and travel marketers.

Take a minute, or 20, and give us a listen. You’ll be glad you did. Get with the shift!
