At Dreamforce 2026, the conversation around AI shifted from what agents can do to what they need to do it well: trusted context.
Across Data 360, Marketing Cloud, Agentforce, and Salesforce's broader AI ecosystem, this year's announcements reflected a push to make AI more connected, autonomous, and accessible wherever work happens. But as those capabilities expand, so does the importance of the data, identity, governance, and business context behind them.
Salesforce's Data 360 keynote captured the theme succinctly: “Context Is Your AI Advantage.” For marketers, the message is especially relevant. The quality of the customer data and identity behind AI will increasingly determine the quality of the experiences it can deliver.
Here are five takeaways from Dreamforce 2026 and what they mean for brands.
1. Better identity powers better marketing and AI
That connection between customer data, identity, and AI was the focus of Acxiom's Dreamforce session with Salesforce, “Unlock the Full Potential of Your Customer Data.”
We explored the identity gap, where a single customer may appear across CRM records, hashed emails, device IDs, media platforms, and other systems without a consistent identity connecting those signals. The result can be incomplete profiles, lower match rates, wasted paid media spend, missed audiences, and less reliable measurement.
Acxiom and Salesforce demonstrated how Identity Boost Accelerator Powered by Acxiom Real ID helps address that gap within Salesforce Data 360 by resolving and enriching fragmented customer identities. Better identity can improve paid media match rates and audience reach while creating a stronger foundation for segmentation, personalization, measurement, and AI.
The impact is already visible in customer outcomes. Guitar Center used Acxiom RealID to increase customer recognition by more than 50% and make 30% more accurate customer records available for personalization. Heathrow built a connected customer data foundation in Salesforce Data 360 that contributed to outcomes including 47% year-over-year digital revenue growth and a 32% improvement in email engagement.
2. Trusted context is becoming the foundation for AI
Salesforce is evolving Data 360 as a foundation for trusted context, bringing together relevant enterprise data with the permissions, consent, governance, and business meaning needed for AI to act effectively.
For marketers, this reinforces an important point: AI is only as useful as the customer context behind it. Incomplete profiles, disconnected signals, and poor data quality don't disappear when AI is introduced. They limit an agent's ability to make relevant decisions and take appropriate action.
Building a trusted customer data foundation is therefore becoming essential not only for marketing performance, but for AI readiness.
3. Data collaboration doesn't have to mean more data movement
Dreamforce also highlighted the continued shift toward more open, federated data architectures.
With Data 360, Zero Copy, and clean-room capabilities, organizations can increasingly use data across platforms without continually moving or duplicating the underlying information.
This approach was central to the Identity Boost architecture demonstrated during our session. Data 360 Clean Rooms and Zero Copy enable identity matching and enrichment within governed environments, with enriched outputs available back in Data 360 for activation.
Resolved identity can also support privacy-first collaboration with publishers, retail media networks, and other partners, helping improve audience matching, activation, and measurement without sacrificing governance.
4. Agentic marketing is moving from experimentation to execution
Dreamforce provided a clearer picture of what agentic marketing can look like in practice.
New Marketing Cloud capabilities such as Campaign Agent are designed to work from marketer-defined goals and guardrails to help create content, assemble audiences, build journeys, and optimize campaigns.
As agents take on more of this work, however, data quality becomes even more consequential. An agent making decisions about segmentation, personalization, next-best actions, or customer journeys needs to understand who the customer is.
If the underlying profile is incomplete or fragmented, automation can simply make an inaccurate decision faster and at greater scale. Customer data and identity should therefore be considered part of an organization's AI strategy, not simply its data strategy.
5. More open AI makes trust and governance even more important
Salesforce also continued to expand where and how AI can access its capabilities.
With AIforce and Headless 360, Salesforce is making data, workflows, business logic, and capabilities available across a broader range of AI experiences rather than confining them to traditional Salesforce applications. At the same time, Salesforce's Enterprise AI Harness emphasizes shared context, permissions, security, and governance across Salesforce and third-party agents. Across these announcements, governed business context emerged as the consistent layer beneath increasingly interchangeable interfaces and models.
For marketers, greater flexibility puts even more importance on customer identity, consent, permissions, and data quality. The AI interface may change, but the customer context informing it still needs to be accurate, connected, and trusted.
Building the foundation for what comes next
Dreamforce offered no shortage of new AI capabilities, but one of the most important themes was what sits underneath them.
As organizations move toward more autonomous marketing and AI-driven customer experiences, trusted customer data and identity will increasingly determine what those technologies can deliver.
For brands, that means asking some fundamental questions: Can you recognize your customers across touchpoints? Are your profiles complete enough to personalize and activate with confidence? Can your data be used collaboratively while maintaining appropriate governance? And are your AI agents working from customer context you can trust?
Getting those fundamentals right can help organizations maximize the value of Salesforce Data 360, Marketing Cloud, and Agentforce while building a stronger foundation for whatever comes next.
