Acxiom Employees Share What Black History Month Means to Them

Black History Month is a time of reflection, celebration, and commitment to continued growth. It’s as much about where we are headed, as where we have been. Throughout the month of February, Acxiom employees are encouraged to share, celebrate, and understand the impact of Black heritage and culture in our communities and our workplace.

Fundamental to Acxiom’s diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts are our Business Resource Groups (BRGs). Created and led by employees, these grassroots community groups are committed to transforming our culture, offering education, tools, and opportunities to support professional and personal development, and fueling important discussions around understanding and embracing cultural differences.

I recently had the opportunity to become a leader of the Acxiom Black Employee Network (ABEN), one of Acxiom’s seven BRGs. Founded in 2020, ABEN plays a central role in creating an equitable and inclusive environment for Black employees. As a member and now leader of this BRG, I have seen first-hand the positive impact ABEN’s efforts are having on our community.

One way our BRG drives change is through company-wide events open to all employees. These bring everyone together to learn, promote reflection, stimulate conversation, and inspire action. Last year, our event series was themed “The Power of Us,” focusing on letting Black employees know that we see them, we hear them, and we stand with them. This year, our theme has evolved to “The Power of All of Us,” recognizing the critical role that our wider community of allies plays in moving us forward on our inclusion journey. We’re excited to kick off this year’s events with a BHM panel discussion that will honor the past, review the present, and discuss the future.

Another way our BRG drives change is by amplifying the voices of Black employees throughout Acxiom. This month, members of ABEN collaborated on videos sharing what Black History Month means to them. Having our voices heard by people across the organization is a great step in creating an environment where all employees feel safe, seen, and heard. We are thrilled to be sharing our voices externally and encourage you to check out the teaser for our spotlight videos below!
